Kansas City, MO (September 26, 2023) – McCownGordon Construction was recently selected to provide construction management at risk services for two major projects in Missouri. The $120 million UMKC Healthcare Delivery and Innovation Building and $151 million State of Missouri Lab Campus further the firm’s presence in its home state of Missouri.
Located in the UMKC Health Sciences District, the multi-story, 200,000-square-foot Healthcare Delivery and Innovation Building will house cutting-edge dental teaching clinics and expanded medical teaching facilities. Promoting collaboration and interdisciplinary research, the building will empower students with the skills and knowledge necessary to excel in their chosen fields and meet the evolving needs of the healthcare industry.
In addition to dental education, the facility will also provide health services to the public. The UMKC School of Dentistry serves more than 13,500 community members each year. The new facility will allow UMKC to expand its patient capacity while simultaneously upgrading the clinic’s technology. By offering increased medical services, the project will have a tremendous impact on fostering greater health and equity within the community and will serve as a catalyst for more research and economic development in the Kansas City region.
Design is currently underway through a collaboration between Clark & Enersen and RDG Planning & Design. Construction is anticipated to be complete in spring 2026.
McCownGordon was also selected for the $151 million State of Missouri Multi-Agency Lab Campus. Located in Jefferson City, this state-of-the-art facility will span an impressive 225,000-square-feet and house health lab spaces, MSHP crime lab spaces and several support spaces as well as a 150,000-square-foot parking garage.
The new facility creates a centralized hub for cross-collaboration between five state agencies, including the Department of Health and Senior Services, Department of Natural Resources, Department of Agriculture, Department of Conservation and the Missouri Highway Patrol. By consolidating these agencies within a single location, the state lab will be able to offer expanded services with greater efficiency and expedience. The facility plays a pivotal role in fostering improved community health in the state of Missouri.
The win furthers McCownGordon’s portfolio in the science and technology market as the firm leverages its unique approach to applying advanced technology to every project, ensuring a smooth preconstruction and construction process.
Multistudio is currently designing the project with construction scheduled to begin by mid-2024 with completion slated before the end of 2026.
“These are two big wins for us,” said Chris Vaeth, senior vice president, regional leader at McCownGordon. “Over the last several years, we’ve seen an increase in project size, playing an integral role in expanding our footprint as one of the nation’s top construction management firms. We are excited to build upon the strong foundation of work we’ve built in the region and continue to deliver an unmatched customer experience for our clients”.
As McCownGordon expands its presence in Missouri, the Kansas market continues to thrive with recent wins including Kansas City Kansas Community Health and Education Center, Kansas Department of Health and Environment Lab and Walmart’s first beef processing facility. The firm also competes in the Texas market and has recently been awarded several projects such as Plano ISD Williams High School.
