This facility houses all mission critical functions of city maintenance, including snow removal, street repairs, sign making, and vehicle maintenance and repairs for times of emergency response. The facility has many unique features including a salt storage dome and brine mixing system, vehicle lifts and fluid delivery systems, a fuel island, interior and exterior vehicle wash bays, indoor and outdoor vehicle storage areas and individual work spaces for various departments within city operations.
The project consolidates four existing facilities into one facility, eliminating redundant spaces and services and improving overall employee safety.
At the start of pre-construction, project scope and budget were not aligned. Consequently, after added scope and an increase to the overall size of the building, the project grew substantially. The McCownGordon team assisted the owner with rising inflation costs on many components of the project in addition to providing extensive value management ideas to reduce costs without reducing the scope or program.
Challenges during construction included the project being on a large site consisting of multiple support structures and outbuildings, many with extended lead times due to current economic and supply issues. The McCownGordon team offered creative solutions to complete the project on schedule and within budget.
